My Process for Fluid Art Glass Pieces

My Process for Fluid Art Glass Pieces

As someone fairly new to the fluid art method of painting, I appreciate the fluidity and motion achievable in this medium. Transforming glass with resin and alcohol inks allows for truly unique creations. The natural translucency present in alcohol ink makes it a perfect choice for many of my artworks especially, my "light within" series, allowing the beautiful fairy lights to shine through the inks creating such luminosity and color.

The Beginning:

When working with resin, placing the piece on a rotating 'turner' helps maintain a steady application of the resin and inks and frees up both my hands to apply the chosen inks. I use various heat sources like a torch, heat gun, or hair dryer, combined with gravity, to manipulate the ink/resin mixture for stunning color movement. However, I stay cautious of its appearance as it will continue to evolve and change over the next few hours as the resin cures, resulting in a unique and magical transformation... or sometimes not lol In fluid art, you don't quite know what it will end up looking like and even if completing two pieces at the same time with the same colors you will end up with two similar but unique pieces as no two are ever going to come out the same, and that's the beauty and the magic of fluid art.

Once the creative artistic part is complete and the resin has cured If needed I will put on another coat of resin, and once that has cured set it aside on a curing rack for 7 days to get complete cure.

Now what?

Certain items will be transformed into stunning display lights by inserting battery-operated fairy lights to enhance my 'Light from Within' Collection, creating a magical ambiance whether the lights are on or off.  And some will receive supplemental embellishments like Sedona Red Rocks as showcased in my 'Heart of Sedona' assortment or Sand and or sea glass in the "Ocean Dreaming" collection. I've even used some as artificial plant holders that are perfect for bookshelves.

*Only high quality UV resistant resin is utilized to preserve the vibrant colors for years, although it's advisable to avoid direct sunlight for increased longevity.
